OVERVIEW: Built in our very durable, well weighted MX construction, the Outer Reef SUP offers additional volume all round, and sizes to cover the discerning recreational SUP paddler in the beginner-to-intermediate class.
DESIGN: Born from a focus on speed and paddle power to ride the outer reefs of Oahu’s North Shore with ease. The complex, but highly effective bottom contours that feature across TCPS SUP’s have been softened on the Outer Reef to provide efficient water flow over a large surface area, and offer high volume stability without sacrificing flow or paddle efficiency.
CONTOURS: The deep double concave displacement hull allows free flowing water movement through the underside of the nose while also reducing slapping. Subtle concave through the centre leads into a pronounced spiral vee out the tail which provides ample turning capabilities and prevents rail-to-rail sticking, especially in uneven, choppy conditions and when driving through unpredictable wave zones. A slight bevel on the underside of the rail enhances trim sensitivity on the wave face.
ROCKER: A more relaxed rocker on the Outer Reef offers exceptional flow on flat-water and entry speed onto waves, while still encouraging smooth turning arcs from the sweet spot position. The rocker has also been designed to allow freedom of movement from the back turning zone right up to the nose.
FINS: 2 + 1 set up comes with FCS II GL side bites which add maneuverability and control when riding waves, and a custom 9″ TCPS single fin that’s big enough to offer an efficient flat-water stroke rate, while still allowing for easy turning. Tom prefers to set the centre fin forward in the box to keep the tail free and loose.
PERFORMANCE: Available in 4 sizes, the TCPS Outer Reef utilizes technical design elements to increase flat-water paddling speed and enhance wave riding response. Fast, stable, yet sensitive to the rider, the Outer Reef SUP is considered a user-friendly model that offers a positive and connected feel to the ocean, be it on the open water or sliding down the face of a wave.

Hydro dynamic hull felt solid. A platform to paddle from which felt buoyant moving through surf and on the wave face. The ability to stand tall and paddle confidently will let me surf longer .
What a incredible board! This thing does it all, it glides onto 1ft waves with ease and rips in 4-6ft with amazing speed, the tail is loose and easy to turn. If your in the market for a incredible SUP this board will NOT disappoint.

I purchased the TC Outer Reef in the late fall and waited until spring to review it. I've surfed the 11'6" in various conditions and must sat that this board can handle anything you have the stones to paddle into. For those making the transition from surfing to stand up, the Outer Reef is a great choice. Bring it on!
Love the board, got an 11 footer which had no problem floating me 215 pounds. The learning curve was about four hours and then I had it pretty much dialed in. Pretty much caught anyway if I wanted to. Also very stable and comfortable. Just pointed in the right direction and go.
The service & delivery was excellent and the advice line was very helpful. I intent to use for flat water and surfing as well. So far on flat water it glides very well and I can see the rocker/s would definitely assist in surf breaks. There are a couple of concave/chines built into the bottom as well. Overall this is what attracted me to the board including the design shape, as it resembled to me more the surf board style. I have not been able to get it into surf yet but feel sure it will perform well. I’m a little bit concerned IF I had to attach a leg rope as the insert in the board looks a bit fragile. We will see.
Overall very happy with the purchase.

I had been away from Stand Up for a few years--paddling an OC1. I began to miss the total workout I had always gotten from Stand Up.
While I had owned some elite carbon downwinders in the past, I was looking for a board I could put some fitness miles on, catch some waves, and just have tough fun without getting back into 14' of complication.
My local dealer--Covewater in Santa Cruz, encouraged me to consider the Tom Carroll Outer Reef. I purchased it--impressed with the price for such a nice board. I got it right out onto the water and just loved it.
The stability is great--so that I could paddle hard without having to spend all my energy trying to stay upright. It glides really well for 11'6". I'll have it in the surf next time. (From Tom's video, I know what the board is capable of.)
This is a great board. When I was finished after an hour and a half, I was hugely happy...and I was toast. Pretty good sleep last night. Thanks for the chance to be getting fit on the water.
11.5 ft, long but really responsive and fast through still and white water. Great on a wave but need to do a lot of walking, even nose riding it has good manoeuvrability .
My first surfing SUP and it's a stable platform with plenty of scope for learning. Each ride brings a huge grin. Strong construction and durable finish.
Beautiful shape and it just glides through the water. I bought this board for a nice small wave at certain camp spot we travel too. Its perfect for my limited ability in the surf and Im sure with an advance rider it would live up anyones expectations. This is a second board for me and I normally use a dedicated flat-water board the Explore CX in our local rivers.
I recommend the outer reef for surf and flat water if you just wanted 1 board.

I am new to SUP riding .I am on the 11 foot outer reef finding it an great board on flat water and surf finding my feet and having a lot off fun getting back in the water .
