Description
The Gnaraloo Softshell Flounder Pounder combines shortboard performance into one of the most user-friendly softboard designs on the market.
SKIN: Thick Polyethylene deck and a soft slick skin on the bottom is super durable, yet soft enough to keep beginners safe.
CORE: Expanded polystyrene core with TRIPLE internal stringer system produces a rigid flex pattern that can be pushed hard through turns. Other softboards can over flex, but the integrity of the rocker is maintained in the Flounder Pounder bringing the feel closer to a traditional fiberglass surfboard.
CONSTRUCTION: Safe for all skill levels, the vacuum construction process eliminates hard or sharp surfaces, and prevents peeling or bubbling.
FEATURES: Leash plug with HD internal reinforcements plus FCS compatible fin boxes and flexible thruster fin set makes it fast and easy to hit the water, and upgrade the performance of the board with stiffer fins.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Construction
Softshell Construction
Boards with Soft Shell construction feature much more technology then the eye can see. They are a combination of materials designed to allow the board to perform to the highest levels given the constraints of the flexibility of the materials. All boards feature an integrated Fin System, 2 or 3 Wooden Stringers depending on the size of the board to ensure the board is stiff enough. A lightweight EPS core combined with a PE foam layer on the deck and a High-Density PE Slick that is mounted to a thin PE Foam layer on the bottom give the board an awesome feel in the water. Soft enough not to hurt should you fall on it but hard enough to handle the power of the waves. You can find out more about GSI’s surfboard construction on our surfboard construction page.

Great beginner surfboard. I'm 175cm/70kg~. Got this board because I enjoy cruising and taking it easy. Wouldn't consider myself a beginner anymore but also not trying to become advanced. This surfboard makes it really easy catch waves and get your balance. Having heaps of fun and looking forward to using it more over the summer.

I am a beginner to intermediate surfer that recently transitioned (downsized from a 7ft long board) to the 6ft Flounder Pounder. I wanted something that was a little lighter in weight and smaller because I am quite petite in stature (female, 160cm @ ~48kg). I didn’t want a short board with a hard surface as I know that I am not at that skill level. I was after a board that was “beginner friendly”, “safe” to minimise the risk of hurting others/myself (not that I ever have), and would also enable me to catch a good amount waves. This board has definitely delivered on all three aspects! I have only used the board twice so far (the first time I made the mistake of not using wax, so kept slipping off the board). The second time, I applied a light coating of wax, and the grip was totally fine. The board is super buoyant and catches waves fairly easily. Now I just need to work on my “instant pop-up” and body/feet positioning as I am still getting used to downsizing from a long board. Overall, I am enjoying the board and has been FUN to ride! My brother even ended up purchasing one after trying mine (he got the largest one from the range as he’s taller and weighs more). :)
P.S. the reason I marked this board with 4 stars is after the first use, when I got home, I noticed that the tail end of the board had been slightly chipped (tiny piece of foam missing). The board must have scraped against something either at the beach or perhaps when I had it standing up on the concrete against a wall? Either way, I was surprised that it could get damaged so easily/quickly. Hence, why minus 1 star

Just purchased the Gnaraloo Flounder Pounder for my 10 yo daughter. She's living it. It's much easier for her to paddle out and over the waves, and gives her more control than the board she's been learning on.
