Description
The Superfish 4 (SF4) is an amalgamation of the Superfish 3 shape, with some old design features from the past. While still targeted at surfer’s looking for a high volume modern fish shape, we believe this is our best Superfish yet; offering the perfect balance of stability and turning response
OUTLINE: Wider nose, fuller outline up front, and parallel rails create a large stable platform through to middle to generate speed. We’ve eliminated the flyer making a smoother curve in the back half of the board. The tail outline tapers so you can make tighter radius turns when you position your back foot right on the tail. The swallow tail also adds bite especially in smoother conditions.
DESIGN: The return of the original step deck! This feature increases volume through the spine and out towards the rails, creates a flatter deck, while allowing for a lower, more sensitive feeling rail. Single-to-double concave delivers a very consistent and predictable feel, without restricting speed or the ability to transition quickly from rail-to-rail between turns.
ROCKER: The 3 stage rocker is well balanced, with just enough flip in the entry to prevent nose-diving in steeper waves. The flatter mid section maintains forward drive and flow. Moderate curve out the tail presents the opportunity to really jam a nice turn when pushing harder off your back foot.
FOIL: We’ve added volume to this model, under the chest and extending towards the nose and tail. This provides amazing paddle power so you can get into waves early.
PERFORMANCE: Renowned for its wave catching prowess, this model really does appeal to a wide demographic. It’s the perfect board if you’ve just started turning and you want to progress to the next level of performance. Or maybe you’re getting a little older, you’re struggling on a smaller board, and you want to keep turning. From knee high, to well overhead, the SF4 will keep you coming back for more.
The 7S Super Fish does not come with fins. See spec table below for suggested template.

Innegra Matrix - IM
Created in collaboration with Colan Australia, Innegra Matrix (IM) is an exciting new material that’s exclusive to GSI and the 7S board range. IM consists of 3oz bi-axial fiberglass orientated at +/- 45 degrees, an Innegra cross-net woven through the fiberglass, plus 13 unidirectional carbon strands, all of which forms a single layer of fabric that’s laminated on the bottom of the board. The deck lay-up has a quad-axial configuration of fiberglass at +/- 45 degrees & standard 4oz fiberglass at 0/90 degrees. With this build, we also use a high density EPS core tha’s cut and finish shaped, and a special ultra bright epoxy resin. Overall this construction helps to control the boards torsional flex (twisting), while the carbon strands control the longitudinal flex. As a result, we still achieve that ‘pop’ and ‘lively’ feel from the EPS core, but with an underlying feeling of control and dampening that’s closer to a traditional PU board. Less chatter, more dampening = smoother through turns. You can find out more about GSI’s surfboard construction on our surfboard construction page.

As an older bloke who's been surfing for a very long time, I was starting to find the competition to get a decent share of available waves evrer more challenging - and especially so in Sydney where crowded conditions often mean having to compete for waves. I 've always ridden shortboards but in these conditions, paddling speed is crucial and as one ages, getting on to waves with enough speed can be challenging on a shortboard - particularly in offshore or crowded conditions.
I've always resisted the temptation to switch to a mal because for me the loss of looseness and maneuverabilty is too great. So one crowded Sunday morning in Manly I decided to give me mate's 7'2" Superfish a go - and from there I've never looked back!
The first thing that impressed me was its paddling ease - both to get out the back quickly, and to get onto waves. The second thing was how many more waves I got due to the much greater paddling speed, and the third thing was that I could do much more on the wave than I expected - it wasn't at all the mal -like log I was expecting!
I was so impressed I decided that day to get my own, and propmtly purchased a 7 foot epoxy model. I'm really enjoying it and I really feel like it's improving my surfing because:
- I've double my wave count
- I can get onto waves much more easily
- Because I can get on to the face faster I can positon myself better on the wave
- The board is really light and fast despite its extra heft, so I can make it through sections more easily and can often take off later
- Its extra length and speed mean I can get great drive and momentum on the wave and as a result can get into a nice fluid groove and really start to carve through turns
- Because of its relative looseness - and especially when I stand furthe back and work the sweet spot for pivoting off the tail - I can pull off more powerful re-entries and cutbacks.
And because of all that I really feel like this board is improving my surfing: though it's of course less easy
to throw around than a shortboard, the extra drive and thrust genetated make for a smoother style of surfing, which I'm really enjoying.
The only downside I'm finding after riding a much smaller board for decades, is that getting through the foam when paddling out can be challenging. It's not an easy thing to duck dive with its extra length and floatiness, so I'm still getting used to finding the best way to make it out the back - though the extra paddling ease and speed compensates for that to some degree.
In short, I'm loving this board because for me it's the ideal hybrid between the maneuverability of a shortboard and the paddling ease and drive of a longboard. Can't wait to get back out there! Happy surfing!

I love this thing! Suits most conditions up here on the Gold Coast. It's the go to board in my quiver, I get heaps of waves on it and it never lets me down. It's a tough number as well and has put up with a lot of abuse! Highly recommend.

I love this board. The superfish 4 is great on small Tassie days but equally impressive on solid point swells and exposed A frame beachies. It is currently my board of choice and wave count notably exceeds my mates tallies. The board handles amazingly and I cant wait to see if there will be a SF5!

I have been surfing the Superfish boards for the last 10 years. Having surfed them from 2 foot slop to perfect waves in Bali, Sumatra, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea they have never let me down.

I bought this board in the 7 foot length, coming down from a Walden Magic Model 9'6 longboard that I had progressed on really well into almost an intermediate level. That is, catching the majority of unbroken waves, riding along the face of the wave, backside and front-side, starting to do turns on the wave etc. My dimensions, I'm 6 foot 4, 82.5 kgs and really fit and the 7 footer looked spot on for my size and level. Coming down from 88 liters to about 48.55, I bought this is an alternative to a minimal, and my biggest fear was dropping too far, i.e. not progressing slowly down to a shorter board. As someone that gets out once a week, twice a week at most - I feel I need that extra volume. But honestly, this board really catches waves like nothing else. The return of the step deck is really nice as I liked this in earlier models. It also has just enough rocker but not too much. I really like the extra volume added up front adds to this and this helps the board paddling and getting into waves. Still able to duckdive the board really well in larger surf, and above head high is where this board really shines. I like the diversity of this board, as it can be ridden in really good waves, as well as messier conditions. Such a fun board and I can really recommend it. Durability wise, mine has been through some tough times, but still holding strong. I'd really recommend the IM Model. If you're looking for a board coming down from a longboard, and an alternative to a minimal or for a fish, this is the board. My other current boards are: Walden Magic, Chilli Mid Strength, Hayden Shapes Hypto Krypto.
