The Modern Retro Longboard puts a contemporary twist on an old school design, made popular back in the late 60’s, when hanging toes was the in-vogue move.
OUTLINE: The Retro is wide and incredibly stable. The long parallel rails create a huge stable platform to stand and walk the board, and the full rounded nose is ideal for riding the nose.
ROCKER: Moderately flat entry rocker provides fast paddling and flowing down-the-line trim speed. The flat section through the middle gives the board effortless glide, and slight lift in the tail enhances turning ability.
CONTOURS: A long, single concave under the nose provides lift for extended nose time, while vee through the belly and tail allows the rider to transition smoothly from rail-to-rail.
RAILS: Forgiving 60/40 rails not only provide bite on the wave face, but also allows for smooth transitional turns off the tail.
AESTHETIC: Double stringer with traditional resin tint, rail laps and gloss finish not only look striking, but guarantees that each board has its own unique appearance.
FIN: The Retro comes with a single fin box and 9″ inch Rake fin.
This log inspired Longboard is all about glide, flow and trimming down the line with style.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Construction
Polyester - PU
Polyester or PU construction uses traditional materials and laminating techniques to produce a strong, reliable surfboard with high quality finishes. All polyester boards are CNC milled from the shapers files and laminated by hand using quality components such as Hexcel fiberglass, Silmar resin and Bennett foam. For years traditional polyester boards have been at the forefront of performance surfing. These boards feature a progressive flex pattern controlled by a high-grade timber stringer and feel very reliable under your feet. Polyester construction will perform in all surf conditions and can be adapted to suit a wide variety of surfboard models. You can find out more about GSI’s surfboard construction on our surfboard construction page.

I am extremely pleased with the Modern Retro I purchased. I ride another performance trifin longboard in most sized surf but its not as responsive in smaller waves. I wanted a more traditional board with the modern improvements which allow great turning, nose riding and the ability to pick up nearly any wave I paddled onto when the waves are smaller. For the price the board is exceptional. Great service from Mark Kelly and delivered in two days.

What is there not to love about riding the Modern Retro Longboard. A perfect board to paddle out on, it looks great, is stable and for a long board it acts like a performance board, turning like a dream. Caught many a wave at Crescent Head during the holidays. Being a young fella I have many surfing years ahead of me to enjoy and will always give a big shout out to Global Surf Industries for creating such an awesome collection.

Have bought 2 of these over the years and would buy another in a heartbeat, such a smooth ride and so easy for an old fella , great for the days at Kirra or weekends at Agnes. Thanks guys

This is the third Modern Retro that I've had in the last few years and these boards just keep getting better and better! The quality of the finish is excellent and it surfs like a dream - easy to paddle and pick up knee high ripples but comes into it's own in the waist to shoulder high range. It trims beautifully and locks into the pocket for some 'tip time'. This board turns on a dime and is definitely recommended for those who want a versatile log and who love to 'trim, glide, and fade'.

Following a holiday mishap with an epoxy mal, I hurriedly bought a replacement Retro model, 9 foot. The board has a great finish and the light blue-green colour is attractive. Being a bit over 23 inches wide makes it a little harder to carry than a standard 9-footer. On the water it floated well and paddled fast. On solid point-break waves the single fin didn't have the grip of a 2 plus 1 setup and was a little wobbly during the step-up at first, but I got used to it by careful placement of my hands. On the wave, it chugged along without trouble except for stalling occasionally if I stood too far back when on the wave's shoulder. Walking the board to ride the nose region is easy and I am still deciding how much to modify my normal, progressive style, not being an accomplished nose toe-curler. Despite being a retro model, it seems you can surf it relatively aggressively. It is surprisingly good on small beach-break waves, easily catching the waves and trimming down the line.

Such a fun all round long board! Great on most types of waves. Surfs well on the nose but also very manageable to maneuver. Highly recommend. Quality board for a reasonable price

When my board arrived it had a thumb size hole on the bottom of the board. This board was replaced, however I was sent the wrong colour. I ordered a blue board and was sent a green board. I kept it as I wanted to surf. I found the board a bit big and bulky and sold it after a few months.

I wanted something to replicate some of my experience from the late 60's, and this board is it! It catches waves easily , trims beautifully and even lets me get somewhere near the nose, something I couldn't do back then. Even gliding thru white water sections is a breeze on this board. I couldn't be happier.
